Coffee plantation Lot 5

This is Lot 5 of Castillo Naranjales variety.

Lot 5 is surrounded by guadua forest on one side and the Hotel Boutique La Ceiba on another. It is approximately 3000 plants, and it will be in production for another two years.

Coffee blooms several times a year. However, there are two major inflorescences.

The first bloom happens after the coffee plant is about one year old.

Ripe coffee

Coffee beans ripen on the plant and only ripe beans are harvested manually. At La Ceiba we are very sellective in this process to insure the quality of our cup.

Some varieties of coffee require shading. Plantain is usually planted with coffee to provide the required shade. However, at La Ceiba plantain is an important part of the coffee plantation revenu.

Lot 6 is the most recently planted lot with Castillo Naranjales. The lot is expected to produce its first harvest in September 2019.

Lot 11 Geisha

In January 2019 we planted about 600 plants of the Geisha variety as a form of experiment to see the viability of upscaling this variety. Geisha gives one of the most highly appreciated cups in today's markets.

Because we do not use chemical agents, insect life is preserved in the rich habitat provided by the coffee plantation. We are proud to protect the life of insects on our property.

Lot 1

Lot 1 is the oldest planted, and is scheduled to be trimemed down (zoca) for renovation after the September harvest. It has about 3000 plants of Castillo Naranjales.
